Crop Factor Images

Posting now the pics. All the Video frames were converted to 1920x1080 to reduce the size in MB.

1. Sony photo in M mode (6000x4000) converter to 1620x1080. Size 60.9cm x 40.6cm (1.53X Crop Factor)

2. XAVC S 4K 30p 100M / 30p 60M. Size 50cm x 28cm (1.76X Crop Factor)

3. XAVC S 4K 30p 100M / 30p 60M 2x digital zoom. Size 24.8cm x 13.9cm Highest crop.

4. XAVC S 4K 24p 100M / 24p 60M. Size 60.9cm x 34cm. Widest crop (1.53X).

5. XAVC S 4K 24p 100M / 24p 60M 2x digital zoom. Size 30.4cm x 17cm.

6. XAVC S HD / AVCHD / MP4. Size 60.7cm x 34cm (Crop Factor ~1.53X)

7. XAVC S HD / AVCHD / MP4 2x digital zoom. Size 30.2cm x 17cm.


8. XAVC S HD 120p 100M/60M. Size 54cm x 30cm (Crop Factor 1.67X).

Sony A6300 Crop Factor Test

My first test to determine the Crop Factor of Sony A6300 in Video Mode for the 17 different modes!

I used a card box to create a 60.9cm x 40.6cm rectangle.
Good tripod and camera and lenses very still 3 metres away from card box.
I used a Canon 100mm Macro lenses (2x zoom).
Together with Crop Factor of 1.53x for the Sony A6300 we got a total zoom of 3.06x

1. Took a picture (6000x4000) in mode M exactly with the size 60.9cm x 40.6cm for comparison.

2. I recorded the 17 possible Video Modes and also a 2x digital zoom when possible. Only the Slowmo frame rates of 120p don't allow digital zoom so I did 32 different Video Modes.

3. I copy a frame from each Video Mode, measured and compared with picture.

4. XAVC S 4K (3840x2160)
  • 30p 100M ------------------- 50cm x 28cm (1.76X Crop Factor)
  • 30p 100M 2x digital zoom 24.8cm x 13.9cm (highest crop in digital mode)
  • 30p 60M ------------------- 50cm x 28cm (1.76X Crop Factor)
  • 30p 60M 2x digital zoom 24.8cm x 13.9cm (highest crop in digital mode)
  • 24p 100M ------------------- 60.9cm x 34cm (widest and normal 1.53X Crop Factor)
  • 24p 100M 2x digital zoom 30.4cm x 17cm (widest in digital mode)
  • 24p 60M ------------------- 60.9cm x 34cm (widest and normal 1.53X Crop Factor)
  • 24p 60M 2x digital zoom 30.4cm x 17cm (widest in digital mode)
In 4K at 30p (100M and 60M) we got the highest crop mode with 1.76X. Also the highest in 2x digital mode.
In 4K at 24p/25p (100M and 60M) we got the widest mode as it uses full sensor so 1.53X Crop Factor. Still there's a crop factor for the vertical lines as in the picture mode we have 40.6cm and in the Video mode we have 34cm losing 6.6cm of vertical image.

From XAVC HD to MP4 Modes (except 120p 100M/60M)  all the sizes are the same in normal and 2x zoom with crop factor of ~1.53X. There's a 2mm difference in my pictures on the horizontal lines but that's probably irrelevant.
